Online Counselling in Canada

Thoughtful, personalized counselling wherever you call home.

Finding a counsellor who feels like the right fit can be challenging, especially when you live outside a major city or have limited options close to home. You may be looking for someone with experience in a particular area, someone who understands your circumstances, or simply a therapist you feel comfortable talking to.

At Find Your Way Counselling, we offer online therapy that allows you to connect with an experienced Canadian counsellor without needing to travel to an office. Whether you're living in a rural community, a northern town, or a busy city, our goal is to make meaningful counselling more accessible.

Our therapists, Kelsey Hoff and Jen Warren, bring empathy, curiosity, and a collaborative approach to their work. We recognize that every person's circumstances are different, and we believe counselling should reflect those differences rather than follow a predetermined path.

Why Choose Online Counselling?

Online counselling offers many of the same opportunities for reflection, connection, and personal growth as meeting with a therapist in person, with added flexibility in how and where you attend.

For some people, the greatest benefit is convenience. Attending sessions from home or another private location means less time spent driving, arranging transportation, or adjusting your workday around an appointment. This can make it easier to attend counselling consistently, particularly when you have a busy schedule or significant family responsibilities.

For others, online counselling provides access to therapists whose experience may not be available locally. Rather than limiting your search to professionals within driving distance, you can look for someone whose approach and areas of practice align with what you're hoping to explore.

Privacy can also be an important consideration. In smaller communities, you may know many of the people around you, including those working in local services. Even when confidentiality is carefully maintained, some people feel more comfortable speaking with a counsellor who isn't connected to their family, community, or social circles.

Online counselling can also provide continuity when life circumstances change. Whether you're relocating, travelling, or navigating a transition, the ability to meet virtually may allow you to maintain an established therapeutic relationship, provided your location and circumstances allow us to continue working together.

Online Counselling for Rural and Remote Canadians

Living in a rural or remote community can be rewarding, but accessing specialized mental health services isn't always straightforward. The nearest counsellor may be a considerable distance away, and the available options may not include someone with the experience you're looking for.

At Find Your Way Counselling, both of our therapists live in the Canadian Prairies. Kelsey lives rurally in Saskatchewan, with firsthand experience of agricultural and small-community life, while Jen lives in a smaller Prairie city.

We understand that geography can influence everyday decisions, relationships, work, and access to support. Farming schedules, long drives, unpredictable weather, and the realities of living in a close-knit community can all affect how practical it is to attend regular appointments.

For people living in northern or remote communities, the challenge may be even greater. Online counselling offers an opportunity to connect with a therapist beyond the services available nearby.

We don't assume that everyone living rurally has the same experience. Instead, we bring an appreciation for these circumstances and a willingness to understand what life looks like in your particular community.

What Can We Help With?

You don't need to be experiencing a crisis or have a particular diagnosis to benefit from counselling. Sometimes people reach out because something significant has happened. Other times, they've been carrying questions, stress, or dissatisfaction for a long time and are ready to explore what's going on.

We work with adults navigating a range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety, stress, and feeling overwhelmed
  • Grief, loss, and significant life changes
  • Relationship challenges and family dynamics
  • Identity, self-understanding, and personal growth
  • Boundaries, people-pleasing, and difficulty trusting yourself
  • Life transitions and questions about the future
  • Difficult experiences from childhood or earlier relationships
  • Religious trauma, religious deconstruction, and recovery from high-control environments

We also offer specialized approaches for particular concerns. Kelsey provides online EMDR therapy, which may be appropriate for clients working through trauma and distressing experiences.

Our work isn't limited to these areas. During your initial consultation, we can talk about what you're experiencing and whether one of our therapists would be a good fit.

What to Expect When You Begin Counselling

Beginning counselling doesn't require you to have everything figured out. You might know exactly what you'd like help with, or you might simply recognize that something in your life needs attention.

We offer a free 20-minute consultation as an opportunity to get acquainted and explore whether working together makes sense.

During that conversation, we'll ask what has brought you to counselling at this point in your life, whether you've attended therapy before, and what you're hoping to gain from the experience.

One question we often explore is: If counselling were successful, what would be different in your life?

Your answer helps us begin to understand what meaningful change would look like for you, rather than assuming that everyone comes to counselling with the same goals.

In your first few sessions, we'll spend time learning about the experiences and relationships that have shaped your life. We may explore your family of origin, childhood experiences, significant decisions, current relationships, and the circumstances you're navigating today.

This broader understanding gives us a foundation for deciding together where to focus. Some experiences may deserve deeper exploration, while others provide important context for understanding what's happening in the present.

Counselling That Starts With You

At Find Your Way Counselling, we believe effective therapy begins with taking the time to understand the individual.

We don't approach counselling as though we already know what your life should look like or which decisions you should make. While we bring professional training and clinical experience, you bring your own history, values, relationships, and understanding of your circumstances.

Our work is collaborative. We ask questions, explore patterns, consider different perspectives, and help you make sense of experiences that may feel complicated or difficult to untangle.

Sometimes that involves understanding how the past continues to influence the present. Sometimes it means exploring a current relationship, navigating a transition, or making space for uncertainty about the future.

We don't expect every client to follow the same process. Both Kelsey and Jen are committed to tailoring counselling to the person in front of us, recognizing that your needs, priorities, and capacity may change over time.

Our role isn't to tell you how to live. It's to work alongside you as you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and consider what comes next.

Frequently Asked Questions About Online Counselling

Is online counselling as effective as in-person counselling?

Research suggests that online counselling can be as effective as in-person counselling for many common mental health concerns, although outcomes depend on the individual, their needs, and the type of treatment.

We've found that meaningful therapeutic relationships can develop through video sessions. Most of our clients are comfortable communicating online, and we're intentional about building rapport and adapting our approach to each person.

Is online counselling right for everyone?

Not necessarily. Some people prefer meeting with a therapist in person, while others need specialized or more intensive support that is better provided through local services.

During your free consultation, we'll consider your circumstances and what you're hoping to work on. If we believe another form of care would better meet your needs, we'll discuss that openly.

What if I don't have a private space at home?

Privacy is an important part of counselling, but you don't necessarily need a dedicated home office. Some clients attend sessions from a quiet room or a parked car where they can speak without being overheard.

We can explore practical options together. If finding a confidential environment isn't possible, in-person counselling may be a better fit.

Do I need to be good with technology?

No advanced technical skills are necessary. You'll need a device with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, and enough comfort with video calls to participate in the conversation.

If technology feels distracting or uncomfortable, that's something we can discuss when deciding whether online counselling is right for you.

How often do I need to attend counselling?

There's no required schedule. We often find that weekly sessions at the beginning help us build a foundation for our work, but we recognize that finances, insurance coverage, family responsibilities, and availability all influence how often someone can attend.

We'll work with you to find a schedule that makes sense for your circumstances.

Can I access your online counselling services from anywhere in Canada?

We offer online counselling to clients in eligible Canadian provinces and territories, subject to each therapist's professional authorization and the requirements of your location.

During your consultation, we can confirm whether we're able to provide counselling where you live.
